Introduction
Mapula Lodge is found in the northern region of Botswana's famed Okavango Delta on a large tree island surrounded by floodplains, woodlands and channels. It is here that one gets the chance to witness amazing wildlife and birdlife on either game drives or boating safaris.
A truly magical destination for wildlife in the Okavango Delta.
For us here at Uyaphi.com it is the fact that Mapula offers an uncrowded safari experience far away from the nearest lodge as well as the pricing point that makes this lodge a great option for our clientele.
*NOTE: Mapula is now under the same management team that runs San and Jacks Camps in the Kalahari and therefore is up to similar stands.
Rooms and Suites
Nine spacious tented and thatched suites offer up beautiful views, king-sized four-poster beds draped with mosquito nets and of course en-suite bathrooms facilities with indoor and outdoor showers.
The decor of all suites is "safari-chic" with rich Kilims, polished butler trays and brass lanterns. Spacious wooden viewing decks are a great place to spend a few hours viewing the surrounding birdlife and wildlife.
Nine suites consist of the following;
- Six twin bed suites
- Two double bed suites
- One family suite
Cuisine and Wine
Mapula offers indoor as well as outdoor dining options, both options are dependant on how the weather is behaving. The open-air bar is the spot for ice cold beer and cool drinks as well as a fine selection of wines.
A "Fly Dinner" experience is an option; a three-course dinner under the African stars far away from the lodge in the heart of the Okavango - this is a must do when staying here.
Lodge Facilities
The central guest area at Mapula offers guests beautiful views out over the surrounding Okavango Delta either from the thatched area or outdoor wooden deck area. A swimming pool is found a few steps away from the central area and it is here where one can escape the heat of Botswana.
The decor is of an upmarket lodge with bright colours, great views, comfy sofas and slouchy armchairs all wrapped up in a wooden and thatched theme. Very typical of a modern comfortable safari lodge.
Unfortunately, due to the location of the lodge, WiFi and Cell phone coverage is not available.
Safari Activities
Wildlife and birdlife are without question the main attractions of the area surrounding Mapula Lodge. Lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, hippo and the rare sitatunga antelope are particular highlights of the area in terms of wildlife while Pel’s fishing owl and the African skimmer are the stars of the show when one is into birding.
