Graham Beck the owner of Steenberg Hotel and Winery has contributed a large collection of Edoardo Villa sculptures which have been strategically placed in and around the gardens of the hotel and the winery. There is a bold contrast between the lush landscapes of the estate and the bright colours of the sculptures and an interesting contrast between the old and the new. Karel Nel who is a senior lecturer in the fine arts department of the University of the Witwatersrand assisted Graham Beck with the placement.

Internationally renowned, Edoardo Villa is South Africa’s leading abstract sculptor and these intriguing metal sculptures have certainly been a talking point for visitors to Steenberg. The Maestro is 90 years old and we are hoping to see him at Steenberg soon when he will be giving his official blessing to the sculptures in their new positions … Seen here is “Potential Movement” which we have all grown to love.

Behind the scenes

A generator is installed and all set to go in the event of electricity outages. It is a powerful one and will supply full power to the hotel, restaurant, spa and administrative offices and will run for as long as the energy is required. Stand by fuel is in plentiful supply on site.
