Carving out the landscape below the lodge is Tarangire River, a favourite watering place, which attracts impressive numbers and variety of game. The scene unfolds before you while lounging on the outdoor patio, allowing you to appreciate Tarangire's diverse wildlife without ever leaving the lodge. At the heart of Tarangire Safari Lodge are the impressively high thatched roofs of the lounge and dining room. The lounge area has oversized armchairs made from old Zanzibari dhow boats, which make a perfect place to relax in the evenings. The Lodge is only 10km from the park gate, and is served by a well maintained dirt road. ROOM & SUITE TYPES: Tarangire accommodation in luxury twin tents combine the authentic safari atmosphere of 'nights under canvas', with more modern comforts. Spacious, sturdy and comfortable tents with thatched roof, screened windows, en suite stone-walled bathroom. The bathroom includes a solar-heated shower with ample hot water, flush toilet and a dressing room with a wash basin, mirror, clothes rack and laundry basket. The bungalows provide the space and convenience of solid walls yet blend into their surroundings by using local stone and echoing the traditional round Maasai huts. Their thick walls, large windows and thatched roof ensure that they remain cool even in the heat of the day. The rooms are spacious, light and air. The camp bathroom is spacious and bright with a large shower and plenty solar heated water. The dressing area is equipped with a wash basin and flush toilet. FOOD & WINE: All meals at Tarangire Safari Lodge are served under the vaulted ceiling of the open-aired dining room, providing great views of the landscape below. The cuisine is international, using fresh local ingredients and a hint of African spices. FACILITIES: Take a dip in the pool to relax and freshen up after a game drive. The waterslide and splash pool make this area popular with kids of all ages. New comfortable wrought inron poolside lounge chairs can be used for sun bathing or as a cool retreat in the shade for reading your favourite novel or dozing in the afternoon. If you feel like doing a little souvenir shopping, don't miss our well-stocked gift shop. Filled with books on African wildlife, culture, and history, clothes created with local fabrics, colorful textiles, and beaded silver jewelry, we have a unique mix of tasteful handcrafts made by local artisans - there is something to tempt everyone. The cozy lounge is furnished with couches made from the weathered wood of old Zanzibar dhows. The over-stuffed cushions make it the perfect place to curl up with a book, or swap safari tales. Tea and coffee is complimentary at all times, or try a local beer or a cocktail mixed at the well stocked bar. ACTIVITIES: Tarangire is perhaps best known for its large herds of elephants. The park is home to around 2500 elephants and herds of more than 200 have been viewed from the lodge veranda. With its varied habitats and permanent water in the Tarangire River the park is home to a large diversity of wildlife; 94 species of mammals, and over 500 bird species have been recorded in Tarangire. |
