Constantia Cape TownFirstly a little history on the Constantia area; Simon van der Stel the Governor of the Cape at the time named his farm "Constantia", he planted vineyards around 1682 and thus making this the oldest wine producing area in the Southern Hemisphere.
There are 9 wine farms in this region of Cape Town that is only 15 minutes drive from the city centre with each farm offering amazing views, amazing wines with some wineries even offering Brandies, Gins and Grappa's, all the while not forgetting some of the best restaurants in the country.
Yet for some reason the Constantia wine route plays second fiddle to the Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine routes. We at Uyaphi would like to try and change this, by offering our clients the best of both routes. We are doing this by offering photo galleries on each estate as well as our own personal opinions.
Our team has been given the hard task of going out to the surrounding wine estates to taste some wine and photograph the surrounding beauty. The below photographs are a result of those excursions.
Constantia Wine Route
Buitenverwachting is a stunning destination not only for wine tasting but picnics, photography and of course one of the finest restaurants in South Africa. Buitenverwachting offers up Red and White wines as well as Brandy, Gin and sometimes Grappa.
Steenberg established in 1682 is probably our favorite spot in the Constantia Valley. Great wines (Red and White) as well as some of the best MCC Wines (Sparkling wine) in the country including two fine restaurants i.e. The Bistro 1682 and Catharina's.
