Plettenberg Bay is a charming, tranquil, and hospitable town, originally and rightly christened "Bahia Formosa" (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers. The town is characterised by unspoilt golden beaches, a rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, indigenous forests, rivers and the Indian Ocean. With an exceptional mediterranean climate, Plettenberg Bay is perfect for tourists interested in exploring the area, watching birdlife, whales or the opposite sex or just lazing around the pool. |

Plettenberg Bay is also home to the rare Knysna forest elephant (as well as knysna +- 100km down the road), teaming birdlife (Nearly 300 species are to be found), Cape flora, delicate wetlands and lagoons, indigenous forests, and a bay large enough for the great whales of the Southern Ocean to calve in and protect their young (July to December). More than a village and less than a town, Plettenberg Bay is accessible by first class national roads, by sea or by scheduled air flights (Plettenberg Bay has the only airport within a 100km radius). |
