Introduction
Kensington Place is an award winning 5-star boutique hotel in a residential part of the city. It offers both tranquillity and proximity to the attractions of Cape Town. The Victorian building was renovated in a contemporary style at the beginning of this century.
Urban chic is the phrase which comes to mind for the interior with rich velvets and bronze giving off a sensuous feel. The exterior and garden are more organic with indigenous cape vegetation, stone pebble walkways and teak decking around an intimate swimming pool area. There exists an absolute harmony here with the owner's intention of creating a Zen-like atmosphere successfully established.
As befits a boutique establishment like Kensington Place Cape Town with only eight rooms (and a staff complement of 16,) this is a place where you can kick your shoes off and relax as if you were at home but with 5-star treatment.
The manager and staff are relaxed but professional and arrange and cater for your every whim. The public spaces are again intimate and cosy.
Rooms and Suites
The rooms at Kensington Place follow the same design theme of the rest of the hotel. Simply furnished in luxuriant materials combined with white walls radiate a feeling of tranquillity.
Simplicity does not mean lack of mod cons and all rooms have large flat screen TVs, iPod docking stations, and laptop computers as standard.
The bathrooms, while not large, are again understated but elegant. Bathrooms are a sensuous encounter, with features including custom made submerged bathtubs, dual showers, along with large bath towels to wrap up in afterwards.
Most rooms have private patio balconies offering views of either the mountain or the city.
Beach bags and essential exercise equipment are also provided.
Cuisine and Wine
As well as having all day breakfast, chefs are on standby day and night, so whether you are coming back from a late night out and want a full course meal or a simple luncheon besides the pool or in your room, the chef will prepare a meal to your desire.
There is no menu so you can order what you like.
The standard of food is high with style best described as modern European with African flavours and ingredients.
