Madikwe Lion Photograph Gallery

Part of the appeal of the Madikwe Game Reserve is spotting and watching Africa's "Big 5" and lions form a very large part that appeal.

Here is our personal gallery on these amazing cats that we have had the privilege of photographing over the many times that we have visited the Madikwe.

On our last visit to the reserve we took our children (11 and 6 years old) and kids being kids they were all excited when we stopped at animal sightings, giggling, whispering and generally getting bored after 5 minutes. That was until we came across lion, my kids did not mutter a word or move a inch; they sat there for 45 minutes like stunned monkeys in total and utter awe. That is the power of a lion - the "King of the jungle".

All in all, Madikwe currently has a lion population of around 60 (down from the previous number of 100). This number is more in-line with what the Reserve can actually handle in terms of natural sustainability.

The chance of spotting lion is average to good, if you stay more that two nights in the reserve (of course this is not a guarantee but only based on our experience and reports from previous clients). Some people are unlucky and never see lions while some people see the "Big 5" on one morning or afternoon game drive.

All photographs here on this page have been taken by us here at Uyaphi.com for the sole purpose of showcasing the Madikwe Game Reserve as we see it.
