» We depart Sandton (Johannesburg) this morning by 07h30 and proceed south to the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, situated at the foothills of the Maluti Mountains and famous for its captivating scenery and invigorating climate.
» Spend the afternoon discovering the vast colourful sandstone formations, which shine golden-yellow in the evening sun, and enjoy the indigenous flora, as well as the variety of wildlife and bird life which the park has to offer.
» The 11 600ha Golden Gate Highlands National Park is true highland habitat, providing sanctuary to a variety of mammals - black wildebeest, eland, blesbok, oribi, springbok and Burchell's zebra, a variety of bird species, including the rare bearded vulture and the equally rare bald ibis, which breed on the ledges in the sandstone cliffs.

Day 2: Golden Gate Highlands / Kimberley
» Today we proceed to Kimberley, capital of the Northern Cape Province, via Clarens which has become known as the 'Little Jewel' of the Free State, rich in beauty, with an aura of peace and tranquillity.
» After a brief visit to this quaint little town we continue via Bethlehem to arrive late afternoon in Kimberley, home of the 'Big Hole' and where the great South African diamond rush took place in 1871, when tens of thousands of men from all over the world rushed to peg out their sites, one of which was Colesberg Kopje, which literally 'disappeared' as the miners dug a gigantic open-pit mine that became known as Kimberley's 'Big Hole' covering 170 000 mē, and at a depth of 240 metres, the mine yielded 3 tons of diamonds.
» We stop off at the north side pan in the city, to view the largest flamingo population in South Africa, before arriving at our overnight accommodation.
» Protea Hotel Diamond Lodge or similar
» Breakfast

Day 3: Kimberley / Cradock
» This morning enjoy a tour of the world famous Kimberley Mine, alternatively known as the 'Big Hole', the largest manmade excavation in the world, dug to a depth of 240m entirely with shovels and picks in search of diamonds.
» After a tour of the museum, which offers a good guide to diamonds, we continue south through the Great Karoo and make our way to Cradock via the historic towns of Britstown, De Aar and Hanover.
» Die Tuishuis or similar
» Breakfast

Day 4: Cradock / Addo Elephant National Park
» This morning we depart for the Addo Elephant National Park, aptly named for its 450 or so elephant population.
» The original Elephant section of the park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area.
» Today Addo is sanctuary to over 450 elephants, as well as Cape buffalo, black rhino, a variety of antelope species, and the unique flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.
» After Kommadagga but just before Teuns se Winkel, we turn right and proceed to Addo via the mostly forgotten yet scenic Suurberg Pass, completed in 1858.
» As you cross over 2 summits you realise just how impressive a mountain range the Suurberge is.
» Zuurberg Mountain Village or similar
» Breakfast

Day 5: Addo Elephant National Park / Port Elizabeth
» Enjoy your day at the Addo Elephant National Park with plans underfoot to expand this National Park from its current 164000ha to 360 000ha, and in addition a proposed proclamation of a further 120 000ha marine reserve that includes islands that are home to breeding populations of Cape gannets and African penguins.
» Addo is a fascinating National Park, which is set to become one of South Africa's mega-Parks.
» The Addo National Park is unique in its unrivalled natural diversity, with five of South Africa's seven major vegetation zones present.
» After what is hopefully a magnificent day of wildlife sightings whilst on safari in Addo, we depart for Port Elizabeth, arriving late afternoon.
