Starting in the centrally located capital city of Windhoek we head north to Namibia's most famous wildlife area and the Etosha National Park. The park itself covers and area of 20 000kmē and is home to a large variety of animal and bird species.
The park is situated around the Etosha Pan, and has an extensive network of gravel roads that enable us to get to remote areas of the park. We spend the afternoon seeking out the resident wildlife before heading back to camp to enjoy our first bushveld sunset. Tomorrow is spent exploring the park in pursuit of the game that this park is so famous for.
Next it's on to the Otjitotongwe where we meet some of the local Namibian cheetah population. Cheetahs are considered a 'pest' by some farmers in Namibia as they kill off their livestock and this small sanctuary offers refuge to a lucky few.
From the friendly town of Kamanjab we head down to the seaside town of Swakopmund where we spend the next two days relaxing and enjoying the local activities and hospitality. There are a wide range of activities on offer in this old German colonial town.
They include Sandboarding, quad biking, horse riding, deep sea fishing, dolphin cruises, scenic flights, township tours and tandem sky-diving. Alternatively, there are museums, an aquarium, snake-park and the beach to occupy those that require some time to themselves. Founded in 1892 during the German colonial rule, the distinct colonial character has been well preserved. Swakopmund has several excellent restaurants, bars, coffee shops as well as many arts and crafts shops selling Namibian rural art.
Our road takes us south past the fishing & harbour town of Walvisbay on our way through the coastal belt and on to the Namib Naukluft National Park. The Namib Desert is strikingly beautiful and the rows of rust red sand dunes are some of the highest in the world. The afternoon is spent exploring this sandy wonderland and offers the option of a guided desert walk to learn about the organisms that choose this environment as their home. The night is spent exploring the heavens & the shimmering lights of the Milky-way.
For those that like the early morning, we have the view of sunrise over the dunes to welcome in this day. We then travel north back to the nations capital for the last day of the tour. Windhoek offers many attractions including museums, galleries and a wide display of shops and local craft markets. The day is spent at leisure exploring the attractions on offer.
