DAY 1,2,3,4,5,6: BAZARUTO ARCHIPELAGO
» Upon arrival at Vilancoulos Airport, you will transfer by boat (or air) to your lodge
» The following seven days will be at your leisure to enjoy long walks, diving, boating, fishing, exploring and eating excellent cuisine
» Once part of the mainland, this "peninsula" broke apart from the African continent 25 000 years ago to form the archipelago, comprising the three larger islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra and Magaruque, as well as the smaller Banque and Santa Carolina, (previously known as Paradise Island)
» The dugongs are the most spectacular of the marine mammals
» This mythical mermaid, "The original Sirenia" was supposed to have beckoned women-hungry sailors on to the rocks to their doom
» Dugongs are normally encountered in family groups, grazing on marine grass meadows found in sheltered bays
» There are five species of dolphins found in the area and they are often seen following the boats when out fishing or snorkelling
» During the summer months humpback whales can be seen in deeper waters
