In over a 1000 years many of the ancient historical and religious sites have not changed. So we invite you to walk through medieval rock hewn churches of Lalibela, get as close as possible to the Ark of the Covenant and photograph everything that surrounds to your hearts content.

This is Ethiopia that we fell in love with, this is the Ethiopia where her people so proud in nature just wanted to show her off. If anything was learnt while we were there it was that this country will soon be up there with the best in Africa making her a must visit destination.

Get out your Indiana Jones hat and whip as the "Ark of the Covenant" can be found right here in Axum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Axum is the best place to start your Ethiopian safaris as the start of the countries history and religion is right here.

This amazing Stelae field is around 1700 years old it is home to Seven of these large hand carved Stela, with the tallest being 21 metres high. The largest Stela never made it to great heights and now this 500 ton beast lies broken on the ground.

This is the most sacred of shines in the whole of Ethiopia with pilgrims arriving every day. Not only does the St. Mary Church Of Zion host the Ark of the Covenant but also offers up an impressive history dating back some 1700 years.

To a large degree the early history of Ethiopia was centered around the legends of the Queen of Sheba (Ethiopian) and King Solomon of (Israeli) who had a son who founded the Solomonic Dynasty in and around ancient Axum (Aksum).

Bet Giyorgis Lalibela
Bet Giyorgis is the most famous of Lalibela's rock hewn churches and get its name from the patron saint of Ethiopia, St George. This church is the star amongst all the other churches and is the one pictured most often.

A church is located on top of a hill and offers pretty amazing views out over Lake Tana. But it is on the inside of the church that showcases some of the brightest and most colorful paintings that we had seen in Ethiopia to date.

About a 60 minute drive from Bahir Dar on a really bad road one comes across a village, from here after a 25 minute walk and a short boat ride over the Blue Nile River one finally arrives at the famed Blue Nile Falls.

Lake Tana is Ethiopia's largest lake and covers some 3673 square kilometres whilst being 85 kilometres long and 66 kilometres at its widest but is rather shallow at a maximum depth of only 15 metres.
