The magnificent Cape Georgian house near Swellendam, set on the estate once owned by renegade President Hermanus Steyn, has been restored to achieve a vibrant modern idiom on a site steeped in history. Ultimate luxury is what you will experience at Mardouw, with its wide verandahs, sumptuous accommodation, fine dining, cocktails in the shadow of the mountains, lunch or dinner on the cool verandah, or elegant dining inside surrounded by a collection of carefully selected art works. In the lounge at Mardouw Country House you will find a stunning array of modern pieces and exotic furnishings where comfort and African style combine with uncluttered elegance. The pièce de résistance is the stone fireplace, specially designed as a lively modern take on a traditional style. ROOM & SUITE TYPES: The 'Superior Suite' offers the ultimate in luxury and privacy with its own lounge and dining area where guests may enjoy sumptuously prepared meals in the privacy of their own space. A private verandah leads to the sparkling designer infinity pool whilst the seductive reds of its eclectic African décor set off some of the quieter neutral tones and compliment the warmth of the fireplace. Inspired by the veld, the 'De Luxe Suite' epitomizes serenity in soothing tints of sandstone and green. This haven of tranquility also has its own private lounge, sporting the farmhouses's original stone-surround fireplace, and a spectacular collection of artwork by South Africa's famous Frans Claerhout. This suite also has direct access to the pool and is wheelchair friendly. There three 'Upstairs Rooms', each have their own private balcony complete with breathtaking panoramic views of the Langeberg Mountains. Enhanced with a selection of modern art works, the décor in these rooms is plush and exclusive. Two of the rooms are double and the other a twin room. All suites and rooms are equipped with mini-bars, electronic safes, hi-fi's and satellite television, hair-dryers and coffee/tea facilities, towelling robes and slippers, fine linen and plush towels, telephone and internet access facilities. All suites have air-conditioning and each bathroom offers under floor heating with a heated towel rail for those chilly nights. FOOD & WINE: Enjoy breakfast on the patio of Mardouw Country House overlooking the infinity pool.
