Exeter River Lodge
'Exeter Game reserve is 'Big Seven' country, and the area is world-renowned as the best venue for close up sightings'
|
|
Adjacent to the world renowned Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of wildlife, including the Big Five, the Sabi Sand is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares (almost five million acres), an area equivalent to the state of New Jersey and larger than some independent countries.
With no boundary fences between the reserve and the Kruger National Park, this area benefits from the great diversity of wildlife found in one of the richest wilderness areas on the African continent along with the additional benefits experienced on a private game reserve.
Game drives traverse an area of 10 000 hectares (24 700 acres) and strict vehicle limits at sighting ensure the exclusivity of your game viewing experience. Off-road driving ensures that you have the best possible view of any exceptional sighting and rangers are constantly in touch with each other to keep track of animal movements.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
Awake to the river rolling slowly past your front door and watch the denizens of the bush make their morning ablutions. The game viewing continues all day, whether on a game drive or from the comfort of the Lodge's shady viewing deck. The full flavours of lunch acquire an extra edge on our open air dining deck, with the distant splashing of animals coming down to drink at the water's edge as a gentle reminder of Africa. Later, give in to the lull of the silent waters and sink into the plush sofas in the shared lounge area, drinking in the peace and solitude.
FOOD & WINE:
Delicious Pan African meals, complimented by the finest selection of South African wines, are shared in the open air boma around a blazing fire under a star strewn sky. Romantic candlelit dinners in the African bush, or on the deck of the guest suites, offer more memorable dining experiences.
ACTIVITIES:
At Exeter River Lodge, it is our passion to share our knowledge and understanding of the bush and its inhabitants with our guests. Our highly trained rangers and trackers will do their very utmost to delight our guests with a choice of the following activities:
Twice daily game drives - early morning and late afternoon / evening game drives in an open 4x4 safari vehicle traverse an area of 10 000 hectares (25 000 acres). Track the Big Five, as well as a rich variety of other game, in the company of an armed ranger and Shangaan tracker. Strict vehicle limits at animal sightings ensure the exclusivity of your wildlife experience and careful off-road driving positions you for the best photo opportunities. Rangers are constantly in touch with each other to help keep track of game and the sensitive approach methods used mean that the wildlife has become accustomed to the presence of vehicles.
Interpretive bush walks - in between game drives, take a leisurely walk within easy reach of your lodge and experience the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush. An armed ranger will accompany you and will share his vast knowledge of the local fauna and flora. Take in the intimate details of your surroundings, from the intricate patterns of a spider's web to the bright plumage of the local birds and the sharp alarms calls of a dozen small creatures.
