Phinda Private Game Reserve is known for its abundant wildlife, diversity of habitats and wide range of activities. Thanks to its coastal rainfall pattern, Phinda enjoys a lush green environment that contains seven distinct ecosystems - a magnificent tapestry of woodland, grassland, wetland and forest, interspersed with mountain ranges, rivercourses, marshes and pans.

This fascinating variety of landscape and vegetation shelters an abundance of wildlife, including not only the Big Five but many rarer and less easily spotted species, such as the elusive cheetah or the scarce black rhino. With only a handful of lodges sharing an area of 23 000 hectares (56 800 acres) and careful trained rangers and trackers in search of prime wildlife sightings, guests are assured an exclusive game viewing experience.

ROOM & SUITE TYPES:

Just four thatched Zululand bush cottages set 15 metres (50 feet) apart, featuring verandas overlooking a busy waterhole. Sitting areas feature built-in sofas which double as beds for parents travelling with children 5 years and younger. Air-conditioned bedrooms have fans and ensuite bathrooms, with a circular stone bath chamber, shower, separate w.c and twin hand basins.

FOOD & WINE:

Your personal chef is waiting in the interactive kitchen, so choose your own menu or opt to be surprised. Join in the cooking or just give instructions and watch your favour recipes take shape! Indulge in lively banter with friends or family at the large dining table or take in the scenery at an al fresco meal in the garden.

FACILITIES:

Guest areas include an interactive café-style kitchen, intimate library with Internet access, and swimming pool with extended deck overlooking the waterhole where a diversity of wildlife is regularly seen. Deep verandas feature comfortable armchairs overlooking the waterhole.

ACTIVITIES:

Tailormake your day by discussing your safari activities with your private ranger. Activities include twice-daily game-drives in open safari vehicles, bush walks, excellent birding and riverboat cruises and canoeing along the Mzinene River. Optional Phinda Adventures, at additional cost, include breathtaking coastal flights, beach excursions including snorkelling and scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, turtle viewing, horse riding and cultural visits. Phinda also offers a range of unique Specialist Safaris: Birding, Rhino-Darting and Bush Skills Academy.
