Peacefully situated on a leafy estate of large trees and park like gardens, the discerning traveller will discover this once magnificent home, now restored to its full glory as Parkes Manor, a stylish country house. Water and wood have always played an intricate part in the history and development of Knysna, and it was the demand for wood from the British Royal Navy in the early Nineteenth Century, that really caused the little town to grow. The famous George Rex had arrived in "The Knysna" in approximately 1797 and believed to be of Royal descent and was involved with the Royal Navy. ROOM & SUITE TYPES: Nine spacious bedrooms are tastefully and stylishly decorated with a warm ambience echoing country hospitality. Each room is individually decorated with a unique character and colour scheme. All en-suite bathrooms contain separate bath and shower facilities. Each room extends onto a veranda where guests may relax and enjoy the open air. Attention to detail is not surpassed and the scent of fresh lowers welcomes one. FOOD & WINE: The Restaurant specialises in South Arican cuisine. Dinner is served from 6pm to 8pm. Enjoy sundowners on our terrace in summer, or a sherry in the lounge during winter. A stylish table of starters which changes daily and specialises in local delicacies. English and continental Breakfast buffet has a huge variety of hot and cold, sweet and savoury, meat and vegetarian dishes tastefully presented. Breakfast is served in the Dinning room or on our terrace daily. FACILITIES: Polo Bar: Enjoy a glass of fine South African wine on the Polo Bar terrace or in the Polo Bar itself before savouring fine cuisine. This is the ideal place to meet with friends, other in-house guests or staff who can inform you about Knysna, its surroundings and attractions. Elegant Lounge: Relax and enjoy an interesting book or stimulating conversation in elegant surrounds. Tea Garden: A fairytale experience in our beautiful garden. A selection of bakery Delights is available to choose from. |
