Set in a secluded valley, 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth, flanked by sub-tropical thicket covered ridges, Quatermain's camp embodies the original spirit of safari.
On Amakhala Game Reserve's 18 000 acres the animals that you are likely to encounter are: lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, monkeys, tortoise and plenty of antelope species. You might be lucky and see some of the more elusive and shy animals like hyena or bat eared fox.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
An intimate camp that offers you the opportunity to experience "Africa under canvas", with crisp white 1900's style safari tents fitted out with military campaign style furnishings; the choice of pioneers, hunters and explorers of that time.
FOOD & WINE:
Relax in the centralised boma area where local delicacies are prepared in front of you on an open fire, and dinner is served under a blanket of stars.
ACTIVITIES:
Game Drives; Your hosts Riaan and Julie Brand are both experienced rangers and will do their upmost to ensure that you have a safari that you will never forget.
Bush Walks; Guided bush walks can be conducted upon request, in a "soft game" area and as such has no dangerous animals present.
Birding Safaris; The area surrounding the camp contains suberb and diverse birdlife encompassing fynbos, thicket, and grassland biomes. We also have the Bushman's River which ensures we see a wealth of water birds.
