Based on Okonjima's 22 000 ha private nature reserve, 50 kilometers south of Otjiwarongo in central Namibia, the AfriCat Foundation was founded in the early 90's and formally registered as a non-profit organisation in August 1993. AfriCat has since grown significantly and what started out primarily as a welfare organisation has over the years identified the need to include a focus on education and research as being essential to accomplishing our mission - the long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores.
Because of the dangerous animals such as lion, leopard and cheetah, children under the age of twelve are not allowed to stay at Okonjima as the lodge cannot guarantee their safety.
ROOM & SUITE TYPES:
6 double, en-suite rooms overlook a lush garden and open-fire entertainment area. Each room has a double and a 3/4 bed, a roof-fan and private, lockable safe. The rooms are close to the Lapa (The Gathering Place), the curio-shop, the swimming-pool & reception area.
10 Bush / Mountain View rooms overlook the natural Okonjima bush-veldt and are set approximately 15 - 20m apart, some distance from the Bush Lapa (The Gathering Place) and entertainment area, each with verandah and wheel-chair friendly ramp. The spacious new bedrooms - with a view and reading nook are also en-suite but have twin basins and a larger shower. Each room has 2 double beds, a mini-fridge to store your own drinks, a roof-fan, a safe & alarm-system, a telephone to call reception if need be, and the sound of nature around you.
